Hive Helsinki is a free coding school that gives you a fast-track path to a future-proofed career.
There are no teachers, lectures, or books at Hive. Instead, you learn coding together with other students and work on practical, real-life projects. No previous coding experience or qualifications are required. The studies last on average 1 to 1,5 years.
How does it work? ✨
Project-based learning
Hive offers a world-class curriculum that corresponds to higher-education level. The curriculum includes 16 projects that cover various areas of programming. You learn to look for the theory and tools you need. Ultimately, you learn how to learn.
Peer-to-peer learning
Students seek and share knowledge, solve real-world problems, and reach goals – together. You develop teamwork and communication skills that are as important as coding in working life.
Fast, full-time studies
The studies take on average 1,5 years and require full-time dedication.
The campus is open 24/7/365
The school is always open 24/7 every day of the year. Hive provides you with a safe and cozy environment and the best possible conditions to work and learn together, at any time of the day.

The studies are free of charge, and our students can apply for Kela student benefits.
How to Apply? 🔭
Create an account in Hive’s application portal and try our two-part online game. No coding is required – only logic. Reserve at least 2 hours to play. Also find a place where you can concentrate, as pausing or restarting is not possible. Don't give up, you’ve got this!
Attend a check-in event organized by Hive to discover more about the studies at Hive and the Piscine. You don’t have to come to Helsinki for this part: we have both online and offline events. You need to participate only in one check-in.
The Piscine (that’s French for swimming pool) is an immersive four-week training without any teachers on campus that will give you a taste of the way we work. Everyone dives into the deep end of coding together and helps each other. No prior coding skills required – you just need to be open and ready for hard work. The Piscine will determine who will enroll in Hive. Typically, about 1/3 swim in.
